Hi Ho!

Playing with HD stuff. Downloaded an HD file from here, and used any old data from my car.

All the dashed - not just my own ones, but the ones included with TV - end up squashed horizontally (or stretched vertically). Any ideas why that might be?

I've been through Preferences, and tried changing default widths, PAL sizes on/off. I haven't SAVED a movie, only VIEWED.

Using Win 7 and the latest version of TV.

I suppose it might just be that video file at a funny pixel/actual aspect ratio or something, but VLC reports it as a 1280*960*30, and TV reports it as a 1280*960 (4:3 Displayed).

Many thanks,

Tristan

I'm seeing exactly what you describe, dammit!
Good news is that I happen to have a nice fresh new version to test that incorporates the very latest Main Concept codec set and a fundamental fix that dramatically simplifies our scaling/sizing processing when showing or saving video. I'll get it installed on teh test horse and try this case pronto!

Greg - I posted a link to the video I used. I just Googled for HD footage. I can't use my own yet, as the Contour makes Quicktime files!! Wink That link is is RAWest video I have :p

Tony - good luck!

I should add that it looks okay in the little preview window before I show the movie, with everything looking round rather than oval!

Tristan, I think you found a wonky video. 1280x960 is wrong ... all the HD cameras I've seen (including the Contour HD) shoot 1280x720. Something just isn't right with that video IMO.

The ContourHD 1080p can output in "tall HD", which is 1280x960, as well as the usual 1920x1080 and 1280x720...

There are other 1280x960 HD cameras out there as well...

Its that specific 1280x960 case. I've got a few GoPro HD cases, but not in that format. The HD saves a range of formats. This list from their specs:

HD Video Resolution Modes: (subject to change, pending final firmware release)
1080p = 1920x1080 pixels (16:9), 30 fps, 15 Mbit/s data rate
960p = 1280x960 pixels (4:3), 30 fps, 12 Mbit/s data rate
720p = 1280x720 pixels (16:9), 60 fps, 15 Mbit/s data rate
720p = 1280x720 pixels (16:9), 30 fps, 8 Mbit/s data rate
WVGA = 848x480 pixels (16:9), 60 fps, 8 Mbit/s data rate

The 1280x960 is the only format that produces 4:3 aspect ratio [of course!].

I just downloaded another of their demos from Vimeo http://vimeo.com/8751678
It plays perfectly, given it is the more normal 1280x720 frame size.

We are looking more closely at the 1280x960 case, and will report back on that.

Can confirm that that GoPro clip (which was awesome - loved the single seater stuff at the end) works fine. Indeed, my dash at 200% looks lovely on my little laptop screen!!!

Next on the to-do list for me is to make a larger hi-res version of the dash so that any pixellation is minimised. No point showing of HD footage with SD overlays!

For the record I'll almost certainly be using 720p60 videos this year from the ContourHD 1080p. First test on March 12th, first race March 28th.

Can't wait Very Happy

Great news! The Contour looks like a perfect choice for you application. Just make sure the mount is as rigid as you can make it. Its camera shake that resuts in the dread rolling shutter waviness.
